A window into the past Few boutique hotels have captured the authentic feel of Cartagena, Colombia's most celebrated colonial city, through the ages as triumphantly as Alfiz Hotel Boutique. Located on a historic street linking the political seats of power, each of the eight suites reflects a different period in the city's glorious past. From La Conquista to independence, the owners scoured the city's antique stores for original period furniture to create the city's most bona fide gateway to the past. Enjoy the ambiance of García Márquez reading his books in the hotel´s unique library. Experience the Virreinato Suite with balcony and transport yourself back to the days when the house's original owner, wealthy French slave trader Jean d'Anglade, ruled the roost. A heritage city In the past, this city served as the port of embarkation for the treasures seekers of the Spanish Crown. It soon became the most fortified port in South America and a veritable “jewel” of the Spanish colonial period. Today, Cartagena is a colorful and noble city in which visitors travel back in time just by walking through its narrow streets, bastions, forts, and castles.
