Our Story

Shashani Matobo Hills

Set on a rock escarpment, Shashani Matobo Hills has picturesque views of the valley below and of the distant Matobo Hills, in a private a game reserve an hour’s Drive from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The southern part of Zimbabwe is etched in culture and strong traditional beliefs that are still vibrant in this modern world. Shashani Matobo Hills is on the border of Matobo National Park, where lies pioneer graves and a sacred shrine of the Ndebele for rain making ceremony. The game reserve boasts of mainly plains game with a healthy population of the threatened rhino. One can enjoy a game drive or take a morning stroll to a historical bin site or visit ancient rock paintings pre-historically done by the Khoisan. The lodge has 10 individual en-suite lodges that are spaced widely apart on the edge of a huge rock dome with panoramic views from within the room or the private balcony. There is also a communal comfortable, tastefully decorated, lounge and bar with adjoining dining room, all open fronted to ensure continuous views as well a swimming pool that offers beautiful views over the surrounding landscape.
