Agia Roumeli is a unique place. It has genuine Cretan heritage and a strong sense of character. It is a peaceful community, nestled between breathtakingly high and wild mountains and a long beach of fine pebble by the deep blue, crystal clear Libyan sea. The village is remote and near enough isolated; you can only reach it on foot or by boat, as there is no road. Visitors have discovered that Agia Roumeli is a superb place to spend their holidays, and many tend to return again and again. The surroundings allow guests to completely relax and switch off the outside world. Anyone who can relate to nature will find plenty to do here. In the restful shade of a rich greenery, our guests can enjoy traditional Cretan food and also specialities such as local goat and lamb meat from the mountains. We follow old recipes from this region and the specialities are usually prepared in clay pots over charcoal or open fire. We also make homemade pizza baked in wood oven. Whenever the weather conditions allow it we also have fresh fish from the Libyan sea . The fish soup we serve is much appreciated and brings the smell of the sea right onto your table. Not only are we able to offer you many different kinds of wine, but our pure Cretan wine comes directly from the barrel. There are a lot of things that you may want to try and taste when you visit us, such as the thyme honey from our own bees, served with yoghurt or Sfakian pita. Naturally we prefer to use local products such as olive oil, vegetables, lamb and goat meat, cheese, feta, wine, fruit and honey. We also offer a variety of vegetarian dishes. The comfort and well-being of our guests is paramount to us. We are a small family business and will personally take care of your needs and requests. The Viglis family has timeless routes in the area as the family originates from the village of Samaria. Artemis Studios are quietly positioned on the outskirts of the village of Agia Roumeli and away from the route into the Samaria gorge. The pretty shingle beach is only 50 meters away. We offer 12 delightful and tastefully decorated large studios of superior standard. Each studio is suitable for 2-5 persons and has a living-room with an attractive dining corner. It has a pretty built-in kitchenette with a practical work bench, a shower/WC and one or two balconies. A wooden staircase leads to a sleeping gallery with either one double bed and one single bed or two built-in double beds, depending on the unit. The studios have excellent interiors stylish wood furniture and quality fittings with individual air-conditioning. Each kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator and cooking hobs
