Our Story
Efrain's Nature Tours
Efrain´s Nature Tours is a tourist services company that was born in honor of one of the first park rangers of the Manuel Antonio National Park, Efraín Vargas Berrocal. Its founder Efraín Vargas Jr. is today one of the most recognized naturalist guides in the area. The reason is very simple because there is a legacy that comes from their grandparents who inhabited these lands from the 1930s to the 1970s. When the place became a national park, it obeyed the local's request, who were deprived of Manuel Antonio's beautiful beaches use by foreigners who had acquired those lands, where Efrain Vargas Berrocal already worked with foreigners who owns this place in Manuel Antonio. The land where is today the Manuel Antonio National Park was declared a protected area on November 15, 1972, by the Costa Rica Government. The father and mother of Efrain Vargas Jr. were summoned to belong as one of the first 5 park rangers of this place because they had very extensive knowledge of the area. However, Efrain Jr.'s father died in an accident inside the same park in 1985 just when Efrain Jr. was eleven and a half years old. During his first eleven years, Efrain Jr. had lived with his parents inside the park, which allowed him to know and enjoy each secret place in the area and he was even already walking through the park's trails searching animals for the tourists who arrived in those years. In this way, Efrain Jr. was already training his eagle eye to search for wildlife. Once Efrain Jr. finished his university studies in 1994 and because of the promise he made to become a park ranger in honor of his father, he had the opportunity to work for the National Park System as a park ranger until 1999, the same year when he made the decision to do what his naturalist guide passion. Nobody has the experience in all over Costa Rica like Efraín Jr. to provide the best tours in Manuel Antonio.
