Huys Van Roosevelt

A very popular activity, always surprising for our guests from all over the world, is the ‘Round of Roosevelt’. The ancestors of two of the greatest presidents of the United States of America ever, Theodore and Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his spouse Eleanor Roosevelt, descent from Oud-Vossemeer. This is a small historical village, where the Roosevelt-family used to be part of the local government for many centuries. One of the family members -Claes van Rosevelt- emigrated to ‘New Amsterdam’ (New York) and his descendants proved that he imported their govern-DNA in the USA. In Oud-Vossemeer you will be welcomed by our guide at Huys van Roosevelt, a cozy Roosevelt-themed restaurant. After enjoying a cup of coffee or tea with a real Zealandish ‘bolus’, you will accompany our guide on an interesting and educational trip. While taking a cultural walk through the old center of the homey Zealandish village, our guide will take you to several sights that memorialize the roots of the Roosevelt family. In the restaurant and during the walk you will also have the chance to meet local elderly, of which many of them can speak enthusiastic about the visit of Eleanor Roosevelt to her roots in 1950. A highlight of this activity will be a visit to the exposition at the Roosevelt Information Centre (‘Roosevelt Museum’) and the place where the ancestors of the legendary world leaders used to live. The cultural promenade is a legitimate recommendation for everyone who’s interested in the age-old relation between the Roosevelts and Oud-Vossemeer and the special history of the Roosevelt family. This cultural activity can easily be combined with a coffee-break, a drink, a lunch or a diner in the inspirational Huys van Roosevelt. You can taste the favorite dishes of the Roosevelts and also try the local ‘Roosevelt beer’ and ‘Eleanor liquor’ or ‘Franklin liquor’, local specialties based on age-old recipes with regional herbs. This excursion will inspire you: you will remember for a lifetime this overwhelming impression of the Roosevelt-dynasty. The excursion can be booked with at least 4 people.
