What to do here?

Visitors can enjoy Croatian and international modern and contemporary art. In the collection of modern art, which covers the visual production created in the period from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century to the end of World War II, most represented are artists related in some way to the Dubrovnik region, above all those whose oeuvre has far outstripped regional and indeed national relevance. In the collection of contemporary art, covering visual art produced since World War II, along with sculpture, painting, and prints, there are also collections of photographs, video works, and artistic installations.

Our Story

Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik (MOMAD)

Housing some of the most famous works of the Croatian and Dubrovnik modern art, the MoMa Dubrovnik ranks high on the list of the not to miss places in Dubrovnik. The main building of the MoMA Dubrovnik is just a 5-min walk away from the Old Town. It was designed by famous architect Lavoslav Horvat and his assistant Harold Bilinić and was originally built as the private residence of the wealthy ship owner from Dubrovnik, Božo Banac. In 1948 it was converted into a museum spreading over three floors and containing nine rooms of exhibition space. The permanent collection features numerous works of Croatian modern art, such as the artworks by the famous Croatian artist Vlaho Bukovac from nearby Cavtat and Mato Celestin Medović from the Pelješac peninsula, alongside other contemporary art exhibitions. The second exhibition space is located within the City Walls, next to the Dubrovnik Cathedral. The Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery bears the name of three prominent Dubrovnik artists whose works are displayed on the first floor: three artists were connected by bonds of friendships and a common artistic affinity for the colorist and expressionist manner. The third exhibition space is on the very City Walls so as you do the tour, do not forget to pay a visit to the Pulitika Studio, the former private studio by the artist Đuro Pulitika that was converted into an exhibition space. [MOMAD supports Croatian design] In our museum shop, the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik offers Croatian design as the best Croatian souvenir.
