Both founders, Htun and Maw have worked in tourism for over two decades and they both decided to introduce ethical tourism in Myanmar with elephants. Htun Htun Wynn is originally from Kalaw, Htun worked as a French-speaking tour guide for over a decade. He has grown fond of elephants thanks to his Uncle Ba, who is related to his wife’s family. His admiration of elephants and his love of the outdoors led him to found GHV with his family, where he now leads operations. Tin Win Maw, Maw grew up in a family that worked for the Myanmar Timber Enterprise and has been around elephants ever since she was little. At an early age, the work of her Uncle Ba allowed her to learn first-hand about elephants. She encouraged her husband and her uncle to setup a camp for retired timber elephants. She helped implement an educational project with the adjacent village that provides primary education for local children. She has also managed to send the children of the GHV elephant team to study in the village primary school. With the help of her team, she is in charge of key administrative duties dealing with both tourism and government ministry sectors.
