Our Story

Museum of Humanity

Museum of Humanity is an initiative of documentary photographer Ruben Timman. It originated from a dream in 2001. Over the past eighteen years, he collected about seven thousand portraits of people all over the world. He always photographs people in front of a black canvas, so that everyone is shown equally. Be it a rich businessman, a child or a refugee. Part of his collection hangs in the museum on the Hembrug site in Zaandam. Museum of Humanity believes in the beauty and value of every person and wants to convince the world that every person is a masterpiece. The foundation does not see itself as a museum, but as a movement of people who make the world a better place. That is why pop-up exhibitions are also held in the Netherlands and abroad and training and education programs are given to schools and companies, including with School of Humanity.
