Our Story

Maria Catita

It was in 2013 that 3 friends (a cook, a restaurant manager and an architect) decided to join forces to open a restaurant. For 6 months they visited countless spaces where they could put their dream into practice, with the clear aim of finding a cosy place in a prime area of the city of Lisbon. This is how they discovered this space on Rua dos Bacalhoeiros, an area where navigators have been arriving for over 500 years with the products of their exploration. The 1825 building was almost abandoned and quite deteriorated, but after 10 months of works, Maria Catita emerged at a former salting house where cod was sold. And what better place could they have chosen? Cod is also the king here. In just a few days they realised that the basic idea of the project was a success. From the first day, each customer that visited them left with a smile, whether for the friendly service or the delicacies presented. Over time the menu and services have improved and today Maria Catita is a restaurant that leaves no one indifferent. Its noble location brings customers from all over the world to this point, and with them we learned to be what we are today, a Portuguese restaurant for everyone.
