We are situated in the heart of South Africa’s Free State province, only 22 kilometres from the city of Bloemfontein. We are a non-profit organization under the name Lehodimo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and Sanctuary of the Free State Province. In some African languages “Lehodimo” means Heaven. Our Story

Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue & Lodge

Zanchieta is a licenced rehabilitation center for a wide range of species, as well as a sanctuary for animals ineligible for release to the wild. To us this is representative of the safe space which we have created for the wildlife in our care. At Zanchieta we believe in the rights and protection of animals. In addition to being a permanent home to many of South Africa’s great (and lesser) cats, we act as a care facility for monkeys, meerkats, porcupines, sheep, birds, guinea pigs, and more who have been abandoned, injured, or otherwise traumatised. We strive to make life as normal as possible for animals by ensuring their health and well-being. We offer luxurious accommodation and great conferencing facilities. Guided Walking Tours are a special event offered daily (accessible for wheelchairs as well), where guests are able to observe our animal residents during their feeding time; offering amazing photo opportunities. Be sure to bring your camera!
