We have hosted visitors of all ages and faiths who are interested in history and the Jewish immigrant experience in New York City.
In addition to touring with The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy, we suggest that visitors might want to also spend time at The Tenement Museum and the Museum at Eldridge Street while on the Lower East Side.
Our Story
The Conservancy preserves and supports the Lower East Side’s community of living synagogues and other historic structures, by raising public awareness of the neighborhoods distinct cultural identity. As the birthplace of American Jewish civilization, and the most iconic immigrant neighborhood in America, we share this history by taking people on walking tours which enter sacred sites, where you learn how past generations came here, lived and worshiped. We do this through customized private and innovative public touring programs that visit high-profile as well as off the beaten track synagogues with a portion of the proceeds going back to the sites visited to help sustain the community. In addition to the LES, we visit other New York City Jewish neighborhoods. We believe that our tours allow us to reveal the richness and the diversity of these historically and culturally important areas, enabling our visitors to gain a greater appreciation of the American Jewish immigrants journey. We aim to inspire and enlighten visitors of all ages and faiths using passionate and knowledgeable, trained guides.
We have a wide variety of tour guides to meet your needs. Some speak Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian, & French, and we have access to a German translator. Our guides range from Reform to Conservative to Frum.
