Our Story

Greg Hutchinson

Do you visit for the "nuts & bolts" or the "experience" that a destination brings? If it's for the latter, read on and you'll be enticed to explore more with Tribal Adventures--becoming an active native! I cut my teeth as a Reuters foreign correspondent who could arrive in an unfamiliar environment and extract the essence of a place for an international audience within the span of an hour. Two decades and a million published words later I've stopped chasing the proverbial fire engine and found time to establish roots in several remote corners of the Philippines to stop and smell the sampaguita, absorbing all that this most colourful of archipelagos dishes up. Breathtaking is the main beach of Boracay where our initial property, Boracay SandCastles, is located. Jaw-droppingly pretty is Kayak Inn, the adventure retreat on a premier whitewater river, The Tibiao, about two hours travel by sea and land from Boracay. Culturally complex is Sagada, Tribal Adventures' base for trekking, canyoning, caving and rafting in the ancient rice terraces region of Northern Luzon. And, then there is Palawan SandCastles, Tribal Adventures' HQ for the ultimate sea kayaking and catamaran cruising expeditions--as well as offering a style of accommodation whether at SandCastles resort or in Tribal Adventures' tented beach camps --that's pure Filipino--native & natural.
