Mozambique Restaurant

Owner Ivan Spiers is a long time Laguna Beach resident and native South African who aspired to make the bold flavors he grew up with available to Southern Californians. Having spent time in Mozambique as a child, Ivan had many fond memories of the variety of seafood and different styles of food from cultural influences of Indian, Portuguese, Moroccan and Madagascar. Ivan under took the task of transforming the former Tortilla Flats property at 1740 S Coast Hwy into Mozambique some 15 years ago and hasn't looked back. In fact the property has grown to have several identities from hosting weddings, special events and corporate events to the entertainment offered in the Shebeen ( 2nd level ) to al fresca dining on the Veranda ( roof top deck ), to more fine dining in the "Speak Easy Style" Durban room with a Piano Bar.

Our Menu

Mozambique offers Orange County’s top-ranked wood-fired steaks, fish and seafood as well as sumptuous brunch on weekends, and happy hour every day of the week. Mozambique is inspired by the flavorful food, bold spices, and spirit of South Africa’s colorful seaside restaurants. Many of the signature dishes utilize the little-known South African pepper called Peri-Peri, discovered by Portuguese sailors.
