Our Story
Gutenbergs Hotel and Restaurant
Four star Family-Owned Boutique-style hotel in the center of the Old Town. Famous for its gorgeous interior, romantic and historical style, and highly professional personnel. There are 42 cozy rooms of various design - 19th Century Classy style, 17th Century/ Old style (with wooden beams) and modern style. The buildings of the hotel were built in the XVII and XIX centuries for needs of a printing-house. Since then Johannes Gutenberg – the well-known patrician of Mainz, inventor of the book printing in 1550 – is the patron of these buildings; his bas-relief bedecks the gorgeous facade of the buildings. Everything here – the paintings, engravings, antique fancy articles, old books in the guest rooms and the corridors – is like a story about the history of Riga. In the 1st floors hall – beautiful copies of the famous Gutenberg Bible and the ancient times printing engravings, books; In the 2nd floors hall – landscapes from 17th century Latvia and Riga; On the 3rd floor – original paintings of Latvian painters and a portrait-story about Latvian cultural intellectuals; On the 5th floor - the Hotel's Restaurant with a Rooftop Terrace. A fantastic and quite romantic view of the Old town of Riga as well as most delicious continental cuisine rich with not only meat and fish dishes, but also with meals for vegeterians. Also a fantastic place to enjoy a wonderful glass of wine from France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Chile, the famous Latvian traditional drink - the Rigas Balsam and the most delicious Latvian beers, Gins from Belgium, Japan and so on. For better comfort of the guests - our Hotel have a small library including books in English, French, German, Russian and Latvian, postal and printing offices as well as the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Bulgaria. Also it is possible to enjoy quite a relaxing Extra - massage, what is done on the special massage table by the professional massueres without even leaving the room - guests themselves can choose time for how long it will be done - from 30 minutes to 1 hour and more.
